The Right Time to Start a Business

Can you start a business and become an entrepreneur in a recession? The answer is yes. There really is no “right time” to start a company or launch a new product. Any time is the right time. In fact many success stories come from people who had a great idea to fill a void or need in the market place during a slump in the economy.

Have you ever had an idea before and then a couple years latter you saw it in a store? I have. In fact 5 months ago I was wishing that some how I could hide vegetables in my daughter’s yogurt to get her to eat them and sure enough last week in the store I discovered a new product by Stonyfield who has yogurt baby meals with fruit and veggies in it. My problem was solved. What if you had solved my problem? Many companies are launching new products right now not worried about if consumers will purchase them. If there is a need or want for something, it will be bought. So if you have the dream of being an entrepreneur and you have the creativity and drive for it, don’t let the economy hold you back. Your enginuity may be what the market place needs!

Don’t be so worried about the how because when the intention is clear, the mechanism will appear. Right down your idea and then your goal to bring it to life and review it every day. Examine your idea and ask yourself if there is a need for it? Will it sell? What demographic would by it?

And if the how tos are so over whelming you can’t get started, remember that there are investors who specialize in business development and are looking for people who have the next big idea to put their time, money, and effort into.

What if you want to be an entrepreneur but you have no ideas? Utilize someone else’s to your advantage. There are business models like a franchise or a direct sales company that have proven systems to follow. If you are just starting out in the business owner world, I like the direct sales industry. Where most franchises cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, many direct sales companies cost less then $500 for an opportunity and have low over head costs. And you don’t have to pay employees!

Bottom line, there is no right time to branch out and there is no excuse to hold you back with all the different business models out there. Just believe in yourself and as Nike says, “Just Do It!”.
